another critic at the time asked why he hadn't represented african-americans in his show.he remembered asking that critic if she could think of one black fruit or vegetable that occured in nature.when she said, "you could have usedan eggplant," he laughed out loud & asked her if she were making some vague reference to alice walker's novel. then he asked her if she considered black & purple to be one in the same shade.in the morning paper, her review was titled, "sam winger's rotten & exclusionary vision."
