At the cusp of the hill, a heap of raspberry canes glowed dusty red in the sunlight.

he recalled his grandmother telling him this as his teeth cut through the hard toffee of a heath bar.

he also recalled her telling him
to make sure he married a woman who could "bake a blue ribbon cake."
